IMPORTANT INFO: Please remember that the incidents you read about below are more "newsworthy" than our everyday type of incident. Local 1522 takes great pride in handling many of our responses without "fanfare". We respond to over 6,000 calls for service per year with an average response time of approx. 3 minutes. The calls we are most proud of are the heart attacks or the "small fires" that are kept under control by responding quickly, effectively, and efficiently. |

Members are urged to continue to use caution when responding on all incidents. According to the NLPD website, the dispatch center was down to 1 dispatcher during the recent shooting on Prest Street. While the lone dispatcher did a great job during this incident, this practice could potentially be a serious safety problem with police and fire units operating in the field. All of this while the NLPD chief received an $8,000 raise according to newlondonpoliceunion.com. Click here to view the NLPD site.

ALL IN A DAYS WORK FOR NL FIREFIGHTERS
Updated
On: Feb 23, 2010 (20:43:00)
Members of Group 1 responded to Crockers Boat Yard on Sunday 2/21 to assist a civilian who found a dog in the water. Upon arrival, members found a Miniature Doberman Pincher in the area of the crane near the waters edge. Firefighters were able to remove the dog and provided warming until the animal control officer could arrive on the scene. The dog was frightened until FF Mike "the dog wisperer" Leonard brought the pooch under control. Nice work by all involved. The photo shows the dog in good hands with FF Leonard.
